About Church Road Winery

One of the oldest wineries in the country, Church Road was founded in Hawke’s Bay in 1897 and was the first to craft exceptional quality Bordeaux-style red wine in Hawke’s Bay.

Our founder, Tom MacDonald, was a pioneer of the modern wave of quality winemaking in New Zealand and invigorated the classic grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

Today, Chris Scott and the team carry on what Tom started, pushing the quality boundaries to see what can be achieved: exploring and trialing, honing their skills and paying meticulous attention to every step of the winemaking process. As a result, our wines are consistently recognised by peers and critics as amongst the best from the region, which has seen Church Road and our winemaker acknowledged at the highest levels
