About Mission Estate Winery

Mission Estate is a multi-award-winning winery and an iconic New Zealand landmark located in the heart of Hawke’s Bay.

Currently celebrating its 175th year, it was established in 1851 by French missionaries and is proud of being New Zealand’s oldest winery.

Alex Roper, our passionate winemaker, crafts a wide range of classic red and white varieties characterised by purity of flavour, finesse and delicacy. He continues a long lineage of winemakers dating back to Brother Cyprian Huchet, New Zealand’s first professionally trained winemaker in the 19th century. Mission Estate gained early international recognition with its first medal at the Paris Exhibition in 1892.

Visit us at our Cellar Door or Restaurant in the elegantly restored seminary building and enjoy one of the finest views over Napier out towards the sea, learn about our history, and sample our lovingly crafted wines.
